Happy Spring to all our Beading Friends

We are late getting the May newsletter out because so much has been going on but you have not been forgotten! Now that all shows are over until mid-July, we are getting caught up and looking at things anew. Something that has been motivating is a book about Iris Apfel.

“If you aren’t interested, you are not interesting” says Iris who describes herself with a laugh as a geriatric starlet. She is over 95 now and dresses with pizazz!  If you don’t know who she is, google her name and you will see some fabulous photos of her amazing jewellery and clothes and in turn get lots of inspiration. Other quotes that inspire are “Fashion you can buy. Style you possess” and “There is no how-to road map to style. It’s about self- expression and above all attitude.” These three quotes we think are useful to all of us as we embark on new beading projects. The take-aways for us are:  learn and apply new techniques, explore colour, find design inspiration in every facet of your life and don’t be constrained by what is promoted as current fashion “must wears”! Remember: style often endures whereas fashion is fleeting.

At this time of the year, nature provides many exciting colour lessons when we take time to observe. We are fortunate to have the incredible beauty of thousands of tulips here in the nation’s capital so taking a walk among the tulips is not only healthy physically but healthy artistically. Each region of this fabulous country has similar natural elements that can be rejuvenating. We hope that you can get out and enjoy them now that spring is in full force.

We wish all of you the very best for the month of May!
