Greetings Beading Friends,

It was a big thrill for us to be chosen merchant of the week this month! November is now known as small business month and in recognition, The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) launched the “Small Business Everyday THANKYOU” contest for the month of November. There was a draw every week for 5 weeks. Both the nominator and the business they nominated received money and a gift basket so one of our customers, Andrea G. “won” as well. We know that many of our customers sent in our name and we thank you for that.

We are all winners when we shop locally. Small businesses provide variety and interest to the local marketplace as competition amongst a large number of small businesses gives consumers more choice than competition amongst a few. Having a good base of unique businesses helps define the character of the community, the satisfaction in living there and it affects property values. Small businesses tend to source their needs locally which supports other small businesses, reduces the environmental impact plus contributes to the local tax base. For every $100 spent with small businesses it is estimated that $68 re-circulates in the community compared to $43 spent at a non-local business. Owners make special efforts to seek out and provide what their customers want because they have personal contact and are in business to meet their customers’ needs.

We are adding a lot of information to our website in the coming weeks. “Tips and Tricks” will be combined with “Useful Information” in a new section titled “DISCOVER”. We realised that the wealth of the combined experience we have (63 years altogether!) could be better shared! It will take time to get all the text adapted to the technical requirements of the website. As a teaser, look at the new section “How to thread a needle”. We recently had a class and people were having difficulties. It is a problem experienced by many and some of these ideas might help.

It is the festive month of December and we hope that there are some traditions you will still be able to enjoy this year. We have to trust that our sacrifices now will bring us blessings in the future. All of us wish you a happy, healthy and safe holiday season! We are so thankful for all the incredible people we connect with through this business! It enriches us and gives us hope!
